Hi...thank you for your visit today! :) This is, Shay, another porcelain doll from my collection! She is 29 inches tall and wears a child's size 3 shoe! She sits in my foyer with her Beanie baby kitty and her dog and reads her Bible! It takes 3 days to make a porcelain doll and I went with a friend who's sister-in-law taught doll making. She lived over 2hrs away so we stayed for the weekend. We started with the green ware. It takes 5 or more hours to clean a doll. A little more for her because she also has a breastplate in addition to full arms and legs. You have to be careful because the green ware is very fragile and will break easily. After cleaning all the pieces, including mouth and eye openings they are fired in the kiln and cooled. The next day you have to polish all the parts then paint the eyebrows, blush, lips, etc. When that is finished it is fired again and cooled. The next day there is a body to make, arms, legs, and body to be stuffed. The arms and legs are then attached to the body, and finally the head after putting the eyes in and applying eyelashes, etc. The doll is then ready for the wig, which has to be styled and then glued to the head, and the final dressing. I didn't make the basic dress but did make all the embellishments. I found her shoes in a nearly new shop. She was then ready to go home with "Mommy"! LOL I now know why collectible dolls are so expensive!!! It's a lot of work!! When I looked at some of my other dolls, I said..."hey, my doll's lips are better than those"! LOL I hope I haven't bored everybody with this long tale, but it really is interesting. I have made 11 porcelain dolls. I hope you enjoyed your visit today and will stop back again. All comments/feedback are welcome and appreciated very much! :) Have a wonderful, blessed day!
